3 Week Old Baby Development

Day by day, your baby is starting to develop gradually and though her changes are still not very visible, by the time she is 3 weeks old, she should show a lot of changes already. Your baby still needs all the attention she can get from you since she still cannot do things on her own. Since your baby has just gotten out from your womb, she still might need more time to adjust from her new environment. So during this time, it is very important that you look after your baby’s every need.

How Your Baby Responds

Your baby might still be uncomfortable with her environment and the only way the she can tell you that she’s not feeling well, or if she’s hungry or uncomfortable is to cry.

How Talking Benefits Both of You

If you used to talk to your baby while she was still inside your womb, she may have already become accustomed to your voice. Talking to her and touching her will help you communicate with her. Since your baby is still very young, determining her personality is still a little bit hard since she will be spending most of her time sleeping. Since she is used to your voice, she will spend more time staring at you than any other person.  She can already feel the connection so make sure you give her lots of love and continue to talk to her frequently!

Common 3 Week Old Baby Development

  • Your face becomes recognized and easier to distinguish from others.
  • They may show signs of wanting to lift their head, so make sure you encourage it!  A Boppy Pillow is a great way to support her and to teach her how to use those neck muscles.
  • They are more alert during the day, and become more interested with their surroundings.  Babies at this age love to be swaddled, as well as held tightly in a baby carrier.  A baby carrier allows them to see their surroundings, but still be close to you.
  • They may also show signs of interest for colors and patterns.  Be sure to check out these popular baby toys!
  • It’s also not uncommon for your baby to be easily startled.  Make sure you make noise around the house such as doing laundry, running the dishwasher, as well as vacuuming.  Just make sure that these are brought on gradually and there is no really loud noises near them.

TIP: Babies love to be held, caressed, kissed, massaged, rocked, and carried. They will also begin to become familiar with your voice and face and will become eager seeing you in the crowd.

You may have become very eager to play with her, but since she is still very young, she still needs a lot of time to sleep and eat in order for her to grow and develop.  So, if ever she’s tired be sure to let her get her rest, but make time for her throughout the day to play and really bond.

Important Thing to Remember

At this point, a baby is still pretty exhausting.  You are also soar, very sleep deprived, and are probably trying to do everything you possibly can.  Us mothers are great multi-taskers, but it’s important that we know when we’re overdoing it.  Nothing is more important than taking care of yourself so you can take care of your baby.
