39 Weeks Pregnant – What to Expect

One more week to go and you’ll be at the end of your pregnancy, if it would not go overdue, that is! You’ve probably decorated his room by now and bought all the things your baby needs. If not, you can take a look at all the items your baby needs for the first 6 weeks! For now, you should be preparing yourself for his coming! Your baby’s already at its full term so changes in you and your baby aren’t that much this week.

Mother:

  • Your belly is no longer growing that much since your due date is already a few days away.
  • As for your weekly visit, your doctor will apply some tests to know the condition of your baby, which includes his growth and position.
  • Internal exams are also conducted to check if your cervix is ripe enough: softening, thinning out, and dilating.
  • If you’re already past your due date, your doctor will test whether it’s safe to continue your pregnancy, or safer to deliver your baby without delay.
  • Paying attention to your baby’s movement is also important. Contact your doctor immediately if you notice decreasing activity of your baby.
  • You may experience frequent contractions, which is a sign of labor.
  • Are you planning on delivering vaginally?  If so, here’s what you can expect with a vaginal birth.
  • Not sure whether or not you’ll want an epidural?  Here are the pros and cons for both natural birth vs. epidural.
  • Lastly, spend these last few days sleeping in and preparing for birth.

Baby:

  • By now, he’s already 7 pounds or so and measures about 20 inches!
  • Though your baby’s already mature enough to be delivered, he still continues to put up layers of fat.

Your baby’s now ready to face the world!  So be sure to know the signs of labor and call your doctor if ever you feel anything’s wrong. Don’t stress yourself out, but instead find this time to relax because a few days from now, you’ll be busy taking care of your baby and that might keep you awake all night!
