5 Tips to Safe Traveling During Pregnancy

The question “Can I travel during pregnancy?” often comes up.  The answer to that is yes, until your doctor says that you’re getting too close to labor.  They will be able to tell you when you can travel, and when you need to stop traveling due to how your body and baby are doing.  If you do plan on traveling while you’re pregnant, be sure to consider a few of these tips.  These will keep you safe, on schedule, and enjoying your trip more.

5 Tips to Safe Traveling During Pregnancy:

  1. Talk to your doctor – First of all, you will want to discuss the trip you’re taking with your OB/GYN.  Fill them in on all the details, and make sure you get their safe approval before you really take off.
  2. Medications – If you’re taking any medications, be sure you have them packed with you on your trip.  This includes prescription medication, prenatal vitamins, and the medicine you’re allowed to take (IF you get sick.)
  3. Look at your schedule – Take a look at your schedule and make sure you’re not going to miss any of your prenatal appointments.  Make sure you have all your blood work in, all your testing, your ultrasounds up to date, etc before you leave.
  4. Information – If you get the approval from your doctor to go, be sure to get all your information gathered.  This means have the numbers from any doctor you may want to contact, and bring a chart of your prenatal list (if you’re 3rd trimester.)
  5. Prepare – Prepare for what you didn’t have planned (this goes for women that are 3rd trimester.)  Who knows maybe you will have the baby early and not at home.  Therefore, it is important to look at your health insurance policy, or maybe consider health insurance for traveling.

Most women are fine if they travel while they’re pregnant.  If you’re still in the early stages you have nothing to worry about.  Doctors only really get concerned about you missing your appointments, and when you travel too close to your due date.  So, consider a few of these tips, and get any advice from your doctor!
