5 weeks Pregnant – What to Expect

Upon knowing that we’re pregnant, we become pretty excited about their coming. We have that mix of emotions for happiness, fear, and excitement. Being 5 weeks pregnant is not at all different from the week before. Your baby is still continuing to grow inside your womb in many ways. This week, the vital organs of your baby continue to develop as your body also has a lot of changes due to hormonal changes.

Mother:

  • 5 weeks pregnant is still not visible, but some non-first time mothers reported that they noticed some bloating in their abdomen, but because this is also a common menstrual symptom, most pregnant women presume that they’re bloated because of the missed period.

Baby:

  • From now, your developing baby now resembles that of a tiny tadpole. 
  • Some of the organs are now developing: the central nervous system, muscles, bones and even the heart.
  • Since every baby is unique, development rate may be different to others.
  • During this week, the heart begins to develop: dividing it into separate chambers and starts to pump blood.
  • Primitive placenta and umbilical cord also starts to develop.
  • A top layer of cells called the ectoderm also starts to develop. From here, the hair, the nails and sweat glands develop.

From 5 weeks, there is still a long way to go before your baby is born and it’s just the beginning of the first trimester of our pregnancy.
