8 Week Old Baby Development

Your baby is now 8 weeks old, what a milestone!  At this point, you’re probably starting to feel much better in terms of soarness, and exhaustion.  It is definitely rough those first weeks, and may continue to be rough if your little one is colicy.  To see what’s going on with your 8 week old, here is what you can expect with most babies!

8 Week Old Baby Development:

Your little one probably weighs around 10 1/4 lbs up to 11 1/2, and has a height around 21+ inches.  Just keep in mind, all babies are different!  This is just a good average.

  • Your baby should definitely be smiling by now.
  • You will notice they are starting to sleep longer stretches at night.
  • They are most likely taking 4-6 ounces at a time.
  • May take a few short naps throughout the day or one long one.
  • Their head control is starting to improve, but is not perfect by any means.
  • They are able to focus better on things as their eye sight is improving.
  • Your little one is probably very familiar with you and your partner and smiles when you come to them.
  • Their crying is starting to die down a little bit.

If you have not already, schedule an appointment with a pediatrician for their 2 month checkup!  This is very important, and shouldn’t be skipped out on.  You want to make sure your baby is growing well, getting stronger, and everything looks ok by the doctor.  Also, 2 months or 8 weeks old is when a baby starts to get their vaccines.  These are very important and can help your baby avoid getting very sick. Myself, and other docots highly recommend your get your baby vaccinated for everything possible.

It is very hard to watch your little one get shots, so be prepared for this!  It isn’t fun, but you need to remember you’re doing it for their safety, and health!
