When it’s time to get our little one a car seat the time is exciting yet a little overwhelming.  We want what is best for them, what is safest and what car seat suites them perfectly.  So, if you’re looking for a little help when you start your shopping, here are a few things to consider!

Consider the age

Car seats come in a variety of shapes and sizes that will protect your child when needed if applied and installed right.  Key importance is getting the child car seat that fits the age of your child and keeping the car seat updated as the child grows.  It will be very unsafe for example to keep a child in a car seat whom is 18 months and not in the weight range if the direction or warnings on car seat label state not for use for over 12 months.

Don’t let price matter

Don’t let the prices of car seats frighten you.  Your child will be in this for a bit so when you think about the safety of the child then what it cost to use daily it really isn’t a great deal of money.  Most important is to forget about the price and go with recommendations on safety reviews for the car seat that you are looking at.

If your friend’s children are older the parents are then the best resource.  They have tried and either liked or disliked a brand of car seats and would more than likely be glad to share their experiences with you and what they thought of certain products.

The local police department will have a variety of safe ideas and listings on the best considered by consumers car seats.  If your police station does not then your transportation department should.

Attend safety day

Many communities hold a safety car seat day in a local parking lot.  Police and safety departments are there to show you car seat installation as well as pass out pamphlets and brochures take advantage of this as it is free and has a ton of valuable information.
