When we bring home our newborn, we want to make sure they feel comfortable in our home. We want the atmosphere to be calm and quiet, and we don’t want to startle them in any way, since they’re so young. Although, when you’re giving your baby a bath for the first time, you may want to consider a few of these tips beforehand.
Not every day - First of all, you want to make sure you don’t give your baby a bath every single day. If anything, keep it to every other day or two days, especially when they’re a newborn.
Sponge bath - When you give them a bath, you’re going to want to give them a sponge bath. So, get a soft sponge, some baby soap, some warm water, and kind of just trickle it down. Don’t really rub them, but instead splash the water on them. Baths are great for when they’re hot, or when they’re too cold. It can get them to the temperature they want much faster.
Baby tub - Also, when you’re giving your baby a sponge bath, be sure to get a baby tub. This will keep them in an upright position, that way they aren’t in the water completely. Instead, they’re comfortably resting in the water.
Lukewarm - Make sure the water isn’t too warm or too cold. Try to keep the water at around the room temperature to avoid shocking your baby. You want them to be as comfortable as possible, and want to make a good impression the first time around. If they have a horrible experience the first time, they may not be very thrilled to do it again.
Toy – Also, if you’re babies having a hard time, and they’re not enjoying it very much, try getting one of there toys and put it in the tub with them. They will see the toy can “handle it”, so they should be able to too. Also, it will distract them, and keep them happy.
TIP: If you want to make sure you don’t give your baby too hot of a bath, be sure to consider a water temperature tester. This will tell you if the water is too hot, too warm, just right, ect.
Giving your baby a bath for the first time is very exciting! Not only is it memorable, but you get to see how your baby reacts whether it’s good or bad. Although, don’t worry if your baby doesn’t do well on the first bath, as they get older they will start to like it more and more. Have fun, and consider a few of these tips for your babies first bath!
