Pregnancy Tales Answered

If you’re pregnant, you’re most likely going to want to know everything that is going on – it’s only human.  We’re curious as to what kind of pregnancy symptoms we’ll face, if we’ll deliver on time, we wonder what our baby will look like and for the first 16 weeks we’re dieing to know the gender of our baby.

Although there are a lot of knowledgeable people out there, you can’t believe everything they say.  Only giving birth and an ultrasound can answer some of the questions you may have.  So, before you are dead set on what someone else says, check to see if that old wives tale is actually true or false!

Pregnancy Myths Tested:

Fast heart rate:  So, most likely you’ve either heard that if your baby has a heart rate over 140 it’s a boy or maybe you’ve heard it’s a girl.  Either way, it doesn’t matter what you’ve heard because it’s not true.  Your baby could be sleeping during the hearing of the heart beat, or maybe they’re jumping around in there.  It all depends on what your baby is doing at the time, just like us!

Answer: FALSE

Raising your arms:  You may also have heard that by raising your arms over your head you are increasing the chance of wrapping your umbilical cord around their neck.  Although, there is zero connection between the two.

Answer: FALSE

Carry high vs. low:  Have you heard that if you carry low its a boy and that if carry high its a girl?  If so, that is also not accurate.  It all depends on how your baby is laying, the length and width of your torso and many other things.  Although that would be nice to know for sure, there is no connection between the two.  You can carry high for a boy and low for a girl, it doesn’t matter.

Answer: FALSE

Heartburn:  Have you had horrible heartburn throughout your pregnancy?  Perhaps you’ve never even had it until you found out you were pregnant.  Heartburn is a very uncomfortable thing and is very common among pregnant women.  Although what’s even more common is that women who have babies with a lot of hair had heartburn.  It is possible to have heartburn and have a baby with no hair, but 82% of women who had bad heartburn had babies with a lot of hair!

Reasoning, estrogen and progesterone (the pregnancy hormones) stimulate newborn hair and also relax the sphincter at the bottom of your esophagus, allowing acid to back up.

Answer: TRUE

There are several pregnancy myths and tales out there, but you can’t trust them all.  They are all in good fun and can be some very inaccurate information.  I’d wait until the ultrasounds and birth to be set in stone on something!

Child Car Seat Safety Tips

Once we bring home our newborn, car seat safety is now an issue.  We need to make sure we buy a car seat that is made for their height, age and weight, one that has all the safety features we’re looking for, we need to make sure we install it properly and always make sure they’re as safe as can be when riding in the car.  For some car seat safety tips, continue reading below.

Usage:  Car seats should only be used when riding in the car.  According to a recent study, 8,600 babies get hurt each year when they’re using a car seat outside of the vehicle.

Use correctly:  When you use the car seat correctly and you buckle them up, you are decreasing fatal injuries by 71%.

Installation:  If you’re not sure how to install a car seat, use some of our tips for our past article!

Rear-facing:  A child’s car seat should be rear-facing for as long as possible!  They MUST be rear-facing if they’re under 20 lbs and are younger than one year old.

Forward-facing:  You can now turn your child forward-facing if they’re over 20 lbs and older than one year old.  Although, keep them rear-facing for as long as possible to prevent neck injuries!

Tight:  Make sure your child’s car seat can’t move side to side or front to back.  It should be very stiff and strapped down tightly.

Unsure:  If you’re unsure about your installation job for their seat, I recommend going to a local police or fire department to have it looked over.

Seating:  You should always have your child’s car seat in the second row of the car.  Avoid putting them in the front and be sure to put them behind the passenger seats not the middle.

Making sure your little one is safe in the car is very important.  It’s all up to you and you have have all the responsibility of making sure you get the right kind of seat for their ranges, that you install it properly and continue to use it wisely!  For the best selection of car seats, check out our site!
