Bottle Feeding vs. Breastfeeding

After having your child, one thing that you have to decide on is whether to breastfeed or formula feed your child. If you’re still struggling on what type of milk you’ll feed your baby, below is a list of comparisons for each type.

  • Breast milk is free.
  • It is readily available when needed.
  • It consists of white blood cells that helps fight infections and natural chemicals to give increase protection against infections during your baby’s first months.
  • It contains the right amount of nutrients that meets your baby’s needs. It includes protein, carbohydrates, fat, and calcium.
  • It can protect your baby against allergies and asthma.
  • It can easily be digested.
  • Since it can be digested easily, it decreases the possibility of your baby getting obese in the future.
  • Fatty acids are present in breast milk, which helps promote brain development.
  • New mothers can lose weight more quickly if they breastfeed their child.

Bottle feeding:

  • Formula milks are getting better and manufacturers have created them to have nutrients with the same proportion to that of the breast milk.
  • Since formula milk is created to match the quality of breast milk, the majority of babies who drink formula milk won’t get infections during the first months, whether breast or formula fed.
  • It is best for busy moms especially that with formula feeding, anyone can feed your baby.
  • As a mom, you don’t have to be the only one waking up in the middle of the night to feed your baby.  You can simply take turns with your spouse instead.

Whether you choose breastfeeding or formula feeding, it’s really up to you! But before you decide on anything, you should consider the advantages and disadvantages for choosing the type of milk you want to use for your baby. Breast is always best, but formula is also there for a reason!
