Can I Drink Alcohol While Breastfeeding? -
If you want to drink alcohol, it depends how much you drink. We obviously know that if we drink too much, it can be harmful to both of us. Also, it depends what time you drink the alcohol. Your blood alcohol level and your breast milk will be at the highest for an hour and half after you’re done drinking. So you don’t want to breastfeed your baby after you just had a couple drinks because your breast milk will have a high blood alcohol level.
It’s hard to determine how long you have to wait because getting rid of and passing the alcohol out of your body will be different for every person, but you should wait a minimum of 2 hours.
If you drink a glass of wine at a party studies show it won’t really effect your baby. As long as this isn’t a daily or weekly thing, you should be fine. Although, if you drink on a daily basis your child may have slowed motor development. This isn’t healthy for you or your baby!
When we drink alcohol, we often get dehydrated, it just does something to us. So, for every drink you have, you will want to drink one full glass of water, juice, etc. Just make sure that it’s non-alcoholic. This will help flush out the alcohol, and keep you hydrated.
When we become a mom, we realize how important our role is. We provide everything our baby needs to get on with their day, and to grow up strong. So, the next time you’re thinking about drinking alcohol, be sure to go over these tips above. Also, you can talk to your doctor to get a second opinion!
