690096_silent_screamDoes this picture look familiar?  We all hope that when we bring out baby home for the first time, they will be that little angel we’ve been planning.  After we get to know our baby for a few weeks, we really learn whether they will be or not.  A common thing that occurs in babies is Colic.  This is something that isn’t fun to deal with, but is common, and there is a possibility our baby will have Colic.  Has your baby been crying more than usual, and no matter what you do, they won’t stop?  If so, your baby may have Colic.  Continue reading below to find more information on Colic, and the symptoms.

What causes Colic?

This is a question that no one can really answer.  There may be several answers, and a few things that cause it, but no one is 100% for the reason.  Although, for now, people believe that it is because of a immature/sensitive digestive system.  About 20% of babies will have Colic, and when they do, they have the feeling of a stomach ache often, therefore they tend to cry because it is soar.

What are Colic symptoms?

There are a few different symptoms, but one very obvious one – crying.  Colic shows up in babies around 2-3 weeks old.  While other babies may cry just because of a wet diaper, or because they’re hungry, colicky babies will cry excessively for “no reason” or that’s how it seems.  They are also pretty fussy and no matter what you do, they won’t stop crying.  You may also notice that their belly is a bit bigger, and he/she alternately extends or pulls up his legs and passes gas as they cry.

How long will this last?

Don’t worry it may seem horrible now, but it definitely doesn’t last forever.  Actually, Colic peaks at around 6 weeks (being it’s worst), and will end at around 3-4 months.  Once it’s over, it’s over for good!  So no worries.

Your baby will continue to cry, but just remember that there is nothing you can really do.  It’s not your fault, or your babies, it just happens unfortunately.  Although, be sure to check for the most common reasons babies cry.  It may be something else that is bothering them as well, and not Colic at the time.   Check out what the most common reasons babies cry are!
