Sometimes we end up having to get a babysitter because either we need to get back to work, or we brought in a little more work than we thought we could handle. Regardless of the reason, finding a babysitter can be a little overwhelming. We want to make sure we find the right one, that we and our children like them, and that they can do the job well. So, what should you look for when you’re looking for a babysitter? Continue reading below to find out!
Someone we know - First of all, it is a good idea to think of everyone you know. Do you have siblings, cousins, friends, etc that could watch your children? These are people we already know, and can trust which makes the situation a lot easier.
Personality – Another thing we want to look out for is someone with a good personality. If they are caring, love children, and are warm-hearted they will be best! We want someone that would care for our children like we would!
Flexible – If you have a schedule that is all over the place, you may want to find someone that is flexible. If you don’t know what hours you’re going to work next week, if you’re going out this weekend, etc find someone that can work well with your busy schedule.
Experience – It is also a good thing to find someone with experience. Ask if they have younger siblings, have babysat before, or if they have their own children. If they have, they will be better than someone who doesn’t have that experience already! It is nice to know that you’re giving your children over to someone that knows what they’re doing already.
Extras – You may also want to ask what skills they have. Can they do CPR, what would they do if your child got hurt, choked, etc. Put them on the spot, because that’s what a real situation would be like. If they know how to take care of these situations, that is great!
Looking for a babysitter can definitely be overwhelming. We wish we could just clone ourselves so we could spend time with them. Although, if you do look for these great characteristics, you will find someone great. You just have to be able to trust them, and feel comfortable with them. Those feelings are something you’ll know right away, so don’t settle for less!
