Our children look forward to this time each, and every year. They are back to school, the leaves are falling, and Halloween is just around the corner. Not only is it fun to check out Halloween costumes, but it’s a time to make memories with family and friends.
Although Halloween can be all about fun and games, it’s important to remember safety first. We want our children to be safe at all times. If you’d like to ensure that this holiday, consider a few of these safety tips.
Where will they be? – First of all, if you’re not trick-or-treating with your child this year, you must know where they will be at all times. Make this clear with your child, and talk to their friend of family member’s parents to double check their location.
Who will they be with? – Do you know who your children will be trick-or-treating with? Although I’m sure everyone they know would take good care of them, you never know. Some older kids can be quite a bully. So, look after your child, and make sure you know who they’ll be with. It wouldn’t hurt to confirm that with their parents as well.
Was the candy looked over? – Before your child eats any candy, it is so very important to look over the candy well. If you see suspicous candy wrappers, opened candy, or anything that doesn’t look right, toss it! If your child won’t be with you that night be sure to drill this into their head.
Can they contact you? – It’s important that your child can reach you no matter what time. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to give them one of your cell phones, whether it be yours or your spouses. Give them the number written down, or write it on their hand just in case an emergency.
Halloween is a fun time of year, but you must remember it is “Devil’s Night”. You never know what kind of people are out, and if they are up to no good. Protect your child this year, spend the night with them if you can, and be sure to consider these tips!
