It becomes a big problem to parents when their babies are experiencing colic. It’s when babies cry nonstop without any reason at all, or that’s how it seems. And as parents, we always long for the day for colic to end sooner.

When does colic start and end?

This usually starts when babies are from 1 to 6 weeks old, and will usually end when they’re 3 or 4 months old, though there are babies whose colic will end a little sooner, while some will end a little later. Though it really depends on the baby, most babies find relief from colic when they’re 3 months old.

It becomes very exhausting and depressing if we see our babies suffer from colic. Their nonstop cries can be very frustrating and agonizing. And it’s even more exasperating to know that there is no cure for colic. Although, there are some parents who tried several ways to make their babies stop and quiet, and they might even work for your infant too!

How to help:

• You can try keeping your baby in constant movement by putting him in a sling and carry him with you.
• You can even try putting your baby on a vibrating bouncy seat. But you should always supervise your baby wherever you might put your baby. What’s important is to keep your baby feeling comfortable with his or her position.
• Another option is to give him gripe water, a European herbal concoction that might help calm your baby. A lot of parents believe in it and claim that it works for them, but there are some who do not. You just have to try it to see if it works for your little one or not.  Just make sure you get the OK from your pediatrician first.
• A massage might also help in calming your colicky baby. Colic might be triggered due to the gas inside their stomach, and massaging him can help the gas pass through. This will more than likely make him feel more comfortable and provide him relief.
