When we bring our newborns home, we realize how much we have to learn, and what a responsibility we have! We often have a lot of questions, are a little bit nervous, and need a little time to really “know” what we’re doing 100%. One question that often comes up when we bring our baby home is how often we should bathe them. There are a few different opinions, and ways of doing it. Continue reading below to find out the answer to your question!
How often should you bathe a baby?
Until your baby is starting to explore, get dirty, and is getting into messes, you really don’t need to wash them everyday. Some parents like to, but it’s really not necessary. Our baby is still very delicate, and doesn’t do much during the day, therefore they really don’t need a bath more than about 2 times per week.
If you can just wipe them down with baby wipes, and be sure to clean their diaper area, you’re doing a good job. Babies don’t get dirty, and really don’t need more than just a quick wipe everyday.
TIP: If your baby is finding it hard to go to sleep at night, and gets upset, you may want to just let them sit in warmer water. The warm water can be very soothing to some babies, and may be what they need to relax. This doesn’t mean give them a bath, but instead to just let them relax, and get sleepy because of the soothing, warm water.
TIP: If you want to make sure you don’t give your baby too hot of a bath, be sure to consider a water temperature tester. This will tell you if the water is too hot, too warm, just right, ect.
As you can see, bathing a baby doesn’t need to be very often. If you wipe your baby every day with baby wipes on their face, and a quick wipe of their body, that will be more than enough. So for now, since they’re little you only want to give them a bath about 2 times per week.
