When we bring home our newborn for the first time, we realize just how fragile they really are. Babies since they’re so young they’re very delicate. Therefore, we want to make sure we keep that in mind, and watch out for certain actions we take. Bathing a baby for the first time can be a little overwhelming because we’re not sure how they’re going to take it, and what steps to really take. If you’re in this situation consider a few of these tips to help you out when the time comes!
- Get space ready – First of all, make sure you get the space ready. Those baby bath tubs are highly recommended. They keep your little one above the water, and allow them to lay down comfortably while you wash.
- Fill tub - Next, you’re going to fill the tub. When you do this don’t fill it too high, but around 2 inches of water. Also, make sure the water is lukewarm and not too hot nor too cold.
- Undress – Now undress your little one, and put their clothes far away so they don’t get wet when they splash.
- Slow – Slowly put your baby in the bath tub. You don’t want to shock them or scare them, so slowly get them wet.
- Soap – Now, get some baby soap and a wash cloth. You’re going to make the washcloth lather and then slowly and gently wipe your baby.
- Rinse – Now, it’s a good idea to get a cup of water. You will want to fill the cup of water and slowly poor it on your baby to rinse off the soap. This is much easier than splashing them.
- Towel dry – Get a nice, soft towel and dry them off. Wrap them up, let them dry off, and get their pajamas on. Babies love relaxing, and then falling asleep after a nice warm bath!
- If you want to make sure you don’t give your baby too hot of a bath, be sure to consider a water temperature tester. This will tell you if the water is too hot, too warm, just right, ect.
Giving a baby a bath really is easy. It doesn’t take much time, and most babies will enjoy bath time. The first few baths will let you determine how your baby will handle being in the bathtub and getting wet. Have fun with this, and be sure to take lots of pictures!
