How to Get Your Baby on a Sleeping Schedule

When we bring home our little one, it is hard to get them on a schedule right away.  They are waking up at all different hours, are hungry all the time, and getting them into a routine is almost impossible at first.  Although it may be impossible, we want to make sure we’re giving our babies everything they need to stay healthy, and get through their day.  Therefore, trying to get them on a sleeping schedule is something you should try and continue to do.  It will make things easier on you, and your baby much happier.

Routine – First of all, you want to create somewhat of a routine for other things as well.  Find a time to feed them, play with them, rock them, and put them to sleep.  Whatever order you want, and whatever order works for your baby.

Play – Next you will always want to play with your baby.  Playing makes them happy, helps them develop coordination, and is a great way to ware them out.  They may have a lot of energy, and by playing when them, you can get rid of it, and allow them to get a little tired.

Feed – Once they’re done playing, they’re probably a little tired, but they probably worked up an appetite as well.  Feed them until they’re satisfied.

Relax – Once they’re done playing, and eating they’re usually much tireder than before.  Therefore, it is time to relax.  Hold them for a little bit, rock them, and rub them.  When they’re relaxed, they will fall asleep much faster!  It feels great to fall asleep on a full tummy!

Put to sleep – Usually when you take time to relax with them they will be out in a matter of minutes.  When they fall asleep, hold them for a while to make sure they’re not going to wake up for a while.  Once they seem content, and are sleeping harder, put them in their crib, and tuck them in.

Creating a sleeping schedule for your baby may be a little tough, but really if you consider these things in order, your baby will be warn out by the end of the day.  Not to mention, if you do this around the same time everyday, you’ll have a routine in no time! Sleep is something they need, so make sure they get plenty of it!
