How to Make More Breast Milk

A lot of mothers run into some kind of trouble when breastfeeding, it’s almost a given.  Whether you’re very sore and engorged, your ducts are clogging or your simply not producing enough milk, it is common!  Don’t let these things discourage you and make you give up.

Breastfeeding problems can be resolved rather simply.  If you’re looking to produce more milk in particular, here are some ways you can start doing so!

How to Make More Breast Milk:

Fluids:  It is very important that you’re drinking enough fluids.  This is probably the most common reason women don’t produce enough milk.  If you’re dehydrated, your baby can’t go above and beyond and produce milk.  Instead, it’s going to store it for your body.

Rest:  Be sure to get plenty of rest.  Being a new mom can be quite exhausting so if you’re not well rested, your body isn’t going to function 100%

Relax:  In order to breastfeed and produce more milk, you need to make sure you’re relaxed.  Your baby will be able to tell if you’re tense or not.  Take a deep breath, lay on the couch and relax while feeding or pumping.

Diet:  Your diet is very important.  Make sure you’re still continuing to take prenatal vitamins!  Eat a well balanced diet and one that is rich in vitamins and nutrients so that you can keep your body and your baby healthy.

Often:  In order to produce more milk you need to feed or pump often.  You want your body to be on your baby’s schedule.  The more milk the better, so be sure to empty out your breasts often.

Producing little milk can be quite common, especially in first time moms.  Don’t get discouraged though!  Fixing problems like this is easy and can be done with simple tips like the ones above!
