There comes that time when we have to introduce new food to our little one. Either we have to start giving them baby food after formula, or we have to start giving them solid foods after baby food. Regardless, we use the same technique for each time. This is a big step in their life so you want to make sure you do it correctly. Consider a few of these tips listed below for guidance.
Slowly – First of all, you want to make sure you make the transformation slowly. Don’t overwhelm them with baby food or solids in the matter of one day. Maybe consider giving them the new food for one meal in the day. That way they are used to two different foods at once. This will help them adjust, keep them in their comfort zone, and won’t overwhelm them.
Little bits – Once you give them the new food, make sure it is very small pieces. This means tiny spoonfuls at first, or very small diced up bits of solid foods.
Varieties – Also, be sure to give your baby a lot of different options. We just may be unlucky and give them a food they don’t like. Therefore, if you keep feeding them this food they will associate solid foods or baby food as something they’re not fond of. You want to make sure you give them several different options. Everything from fruits, vegetables, desserts, etc.
Work with both – You also want to make sure you work with both of the foods. Switch between the two. For breakfast start them out on what they’re used to eating, and try something new for lunch. Then for dinner, go back to what they’re used to.
As you can see, introducing new foods to your baby takes a little bit of thinking, and some steps to get them ready. It won’t happen over night, but if you consider a few of these tips, your baby will be making the adjustment very well.
