Once our baby starts to grow up we often question ourselves what we should do differently. We wonder how long they should be sleeping, what they should be eating, and whether or not they’re ready for different things. One question that often comes up is, “Is my baby ready for solid foods?” this is a common question, and there are several different answers to it. Continue reading below to see if you think your baby is ready!
Signs that your baby is ready for solid food:
- If you’re little one can hold their head up by themselves.
- They can sit well in a high chair – no assistance needed.
- They start to chew on things that don’t need to be chewed – starts using their teeth.
- If they’re teething.
- If they can move their tongue back and forth without spitting out foods.
- Shows higher interest in food.
- They start showing significant weight gain.
- If they get hungry more often than usual.
- If they seem more curious about the foods you’re eating.
- They can close their mouth around a spoon.
Your baby won’t show all of these at once (in the beginning), but eventually they will. These little hints and steps are saying that they want to try solid food. Be sure to watch out for these signs, to give them time, and not to force solid foods at too early of an age. Consider talking with your doctor, and bring your little one in. They will be able to give you great advice on what to start them off with, and tell you whether or not they think they’re really ready. In the mean time, be sure to look out for these hints so you can share them with your doctor, and to keep track of the progress they’re making over the weeks that go by.
