Kentucky Car Seat Laws

As we all know, Kentucky is a beautiful state.  It represents beautiful green scenery and much more.  And like every other state, they have car seat laws that need to be followed.

As a parent, I think it’s safe to say that our child’s safety is our number one priority.  The everyday roads that we drive on are dangerous as it is, so it’s important to give your child any additional protection you can.  So, if you live in the state of Kentucky, here are the car seat laws you must follow as a parent.

Kentucky Car Seat Laws:

  • If your child’s height is less than 40 inches, they must remain in a child car seat.
  • Children that are also 6 years and younger, and have a height between 40-50 inches must be sitting in a booster car seat.

Failure to meet the following criteria above can result in fines.

NOTES:

  • It is a good idea that you keep your baby in the rear-facing position if they are under 20 lbs AND are less than a year old.  Keeping them rear-facing for as long as you can adds additional safety.
  • Make sure you always keep an eye on your child’s car seat when it comes to it’s requirements.  Your child should never be above the weight and height requirements for their particular car seat.  If they are, you must upgrade their car seat to the next level.
  • Always wearing a seat belt can also add additional protection to anyone in the car.

This is just a brief summary of Kentucky’s car seat laws.  It is important that you realize car seat laws may change over time.  Therefore, it is important that you check them on a regular basis to keep your little one as safe as possible, and to also avoid any traffic violations with the law.
