We all want our children to be safe. The best way we can do that is to follow the safety rules of the state that we live in. A lot of state’s differ from one another, therefore it is important to know your actual state’s laws. Live in Michigan? Then continue reading below out the rules for this state.
Michigan Car Seat Laws:
- They should remain in a car seat until the age of 4, as well as stay in a booster seat until the age of at least 7 and the height of 4’9″.
- It is the law that your child must wear their seat belt until they have reached the age of 16 years old. After the age of 16, they can go without a seat belt if they are sitting in the back seat. This of course is not recommended. Your child should always wear their seat belt for additional safety.
- Your child must also stay in the back seat of the car (if it’s available) until the age of at least 4.
NOTES:
- It is a good idea that you keep your baby rear-facing until the age of 1 year AND 20 lbs. This will allow time for their neck to develop and strengthen.
- You should also take a look at your child’s car seat. All car seats vary on weights and heights, so it is a good idea to make sure your child fits the requirements for that exact seat. I also advise you to avoid buying used car seats. These are dangerous and should always be avoided.
