As tiny as New Hampshire may be, they do have car seat laws just like any other state in the U.S.  Car seat laws are very important to know simply because they can help you avoid getting a traffic violation, fines, and they can also help you keep your child safe. 

Keep in mind that car seat laws vary from state to state, therefore it is important that you know the actual car seat laws for the state that you live in.  So,  if you live in the state of New Hampshire, be sure to familiarize yourself with these laws below.

New Hampshire Car Seat Laws:

• If your child is 5 years or younger, and they are less than 55″, they must remain in a car seat.
• An adult safety belt is permissible for children 6-17 years of age.  They must also be at least 55″ tall.
• If you fail to follow these laws, it may result to a fine of $50.

NOTES:

• It is always a good idea to keep your baby rear-facing for at least 1 year, and until they reach 20 lbs.  This additional time allows their neck to strengthen.
• Never buy a car seat that was once used by someone else.  You never know if it’s been in an accident, if it’s an older model that’s expired, or even worse, if it’s been recalled due to safety issues.
• Once your child has exceeded the weight and height limit in their car seat, it is crucial that you upgrade them to the next seat as soon as possible.
