You should always find ways to make your child’s everyday activities safer. Between putting up baby gates around the house, keeping an eye on them when playing in the yard, and making sure they have a car seat suited for them in the car, you can turn what could be dangerous situations into safer situations.
Like all states in the U.S., Oklahoma has car seat laws that need to be followed. If you don’t know the car seat laws for your state already, take the time to familiarize yourself now.
Oklahoma Car Seat Laws:
- If your child is 5 years or younger, they must remain in a child car seat.
- Your child must also wear a safety belt from ages 8-12 years old.
- If you fail to follow these laws, it may result in a fine of $25.
NOTES:
- It is never safe to buy a used car seat. Used car seats can be recalled without you knowing it, expired or could have even been in an accident.
- Always make sure your child’s seat fits them properly. Since children grown so quickly, it’s important to make sure your child’s height and weight match the seat properly.
- If you have a baby that is younger than a year old, and is less than 20 lbs, you should always keep them rear-facing. Until they’ve met both the height and weight requirements, and have gotten the OK from their pediatrician, they should always remain rear-facing.
Oklahoma doesn’t have very many car seat laws, so it should be rather easy to follow! Consider the laws above, think of them daily, and take action by following them.
This is just a brief summary of Oklahoma’s car seat laws. Car seat laws can and may change over time, so it’s your responsibility as a parent or guardian to keep up with this very important information.
