Reasons for Bleeding During Early Pregnancy

From the moment we find out we’re pregnant, we are pretty excited and are ready to start our long journey.  The first thing that should always be done is making a call to your OB/GYN to schedule your first appointment.  They will get you on the right path, let you know when your due date is and tell you everything you need to know to have a healthy pregnancy.

Everyone’s pregnancy is different, a different length of time, has different symptoms and is just overall not like anyone else’.  If you have been noticing something that doesn’t seem right, bring it to your doctor’s attention.  A lot of women get bleeding during early pregnancy which will scare them and leave them frightened.  Don’t panic, if you’re bleeding during your first trimester, these are a few reasons why you may be:

Reasons for Bleeding During Early Pregnancy:

  • This could be a sign of miscarriage, but before you get upset, realize that 50% of women that bleed don’t have one.
  • You may have implantation bleeding which can happen from 6-12 days after conception.  The bleeding can range from quite a bit to just a few spots, it’s different for everyone.
  • You may have some type of infection in the pelvic cavity or urinary tract that may cause bleeding.
  • If you’ve just had intercourse or have been having it lately, you may find that you’re bleeding from that.  After intercourse some women find that they bleed because the cervix is tender and sensitive.

If you have been bleeding during your first trimester, above are some of the reasons why you may be.  Don’t panic or think the worst right away.  It is said that 20-30% of women have some kind of bleeding throughout their pregnancy.  Also, it is more dangerous to have it in the second and third trimester than the first!
