When we’re new to breastfeeding, we want to know everything about it, and we’re eager to learn. As a nursing mom, there are several questions that come up, one of the most popular being “Should I Avoid Certain Foods While Breastfeeding?” Continue to read below to find out what the answer is!
Answer: First of all, it really depends on you and your baby. Some babies have a harder time with certain foods that their mother eats, yet some love the different flavors. So, to make sure it’s okay for you, all you can really do is try. We all have different diets, and like/dislike certain foods. So, for now eat normally (unless your doctor says change your eating pattern.)
Foods to test: There are a few different foods that you may want to test. Some foods may make your little one unhappy, gassy, or not feeling too good. Although, we can only find that out if we try, and test certain foods out. Foods that babies usually have a hard time with are citrus, spicy, hot, etc. Things like oranges, chili peppers, and different spices may catch our little ones off guard. So, to make things easier for both of you, you can continue eating regularly and see how things go, and see how your baby reacts, or you can avoid the foods you think you baby may have a hard time with.
It is common for babies to digest some amniotic fluid before they’re born, so some babies will be used to what you’ve already eaten or drank. Like always though, you should never drink or smoke when you’re pregnant or breastfeeding. These are not good for your little one, or yourself. They may have bad side effects, and may harm your little one while they’re still growing. It is always good to be safe than sorry!
