The Benefits of Formula Feeding

Though medical experts recommend breastfeeding because it’s best, there are some mothers who are unable to produce enough breast milk to provide for their baby’s needs.  There are also other mothers who just choose not to, especially if their situation can’t let them.  If you’d like to continue trying to breastfeed, here are some ways to produce more breast milk.  Although if not, keep in mind that choosing formula-milk over breast milk for your baby doesn’t mean you’re choosing less for him. In fact, formula-milk is very convenient and gives you freedom too!

The Benefits and Conveniences of Formula Feeding:

  • Formula takes longer to digest, which means less waking up in the middle of the night.
  • It also lets you know how much milk he has consumed.
  • You, as a mother, don’t have to be present whenever your baby’s hungry.
  • You can leave your baby with your partner or with a caregiver and let them do the feeding.
  • It gives you more freedom to go out without your baby here and there.
  • You can dress however you like, unlike nursing mothers who have to wear something convenient to accommodate their hungry baby.
  • No nursing pads are needed.
  • You can even eat and drink anything without having to worrying about the effect it will have on your baby.
  • You can take prescription medication if needed to.

As you can see, formula-feeding your baby is not as bad as you think it is, especially if you have a very busy lifestyle!  Although “breast is best” and it does give your baby nutrients formula can’t, it’s not always capable of happening.  You should always at least give breastfeeding a try before you knock it though, simply because there are several reasons to breastfeed your baby.

One thing you have to make sure when formula-feeding is to choose the right product for your baby. Consult with your pediatrician on this matter to ensure that the nutrients your baby needs are met. And most importantly, make sure that the bond between you and your baby is not compromised.
