Tips for Sterilizing Baby Bottles

When it comes to the safety of our baby, we are 100% responsible as a parent.  Everything from bath time, to car seat safety and even feeding our child should be done with a lot of thought and be done very carefully.  One thing parents are always asking is how to properly clean and sterilize a baby bottle.  We don’t want them to get sick by using a dirty bottle, so how can we clean it effectively?  For the answers, continue reading below!

Tips for Sterilizing Baby Bottles:

  • If your baby bottles are dishwasher safe (should say on the box), then I highly recommend that you put them through the dishwasher.  Dishwashers go through very long and hot cycles to make sure they are killing all the germs and bacteria on our dishes.  This is the number one way to wash baby bottles!  So, set your dishwasher on a hot setting and put all of your bottles on the top shelf.
  • If you don’t have a dishwasher, you can wash your bottles by hand.  Just make sure that you are washing them with very hot water, a new and clean dish rag and with soap.  Start by rinsing it and soaking it in hot water.  Then, pour soap in it and shake them.  Letting the soap sit in their a while is a good idea.  You can’t have “too clean” of a bottle.  Now, rinse with very hot water and repeat to make sure you are really sterilizing.
  • You can also let your baby bottles sit in a boiling pot of water for 5 minutes.  This will guarantee that your bottles are sterile and safe to use.

Making sure that your baby’s bottles are sterile is very important.  You don’t ever want to use the same bottle more than once without cleaning it.  Also, don’t let them sit in a dirty sink for too long, our sinks are filled with several germs and bacteria.  For the cleanest bottles, consider these tips above!
