Top Money Mistakes Made by Young Parents

1022839_heres_is_a_tip_When we know that we’re going to have a baby we are always very excited.  Therefore, that leaves us about 9 months + to spend money on our little one coming.  Us parents want the cutest clothes, all the baby items on the market, and want to provide our baby with everything they want and need.  The problem with this is that we often spend a lot of money that isn’t necessary.  We are excited, but it is important to stay within our means at the same time!  Continue reading below to find out what the top money mistakes made by parents are!

Name brands – Name brands seem like everything these days.  We want the Gerber baby food, the Pampers diapers, and the Tommy Hilfiger clothes.  If you go this route 100% of the time, you’re spending way too much money!

Clothing  - First of all, we love to shop at malls and stores that have the latest name brands.  When we enter these kinds of stores, we are almost automatically going to spend more there than compared to the basic stores.  Name brands are okay but only if you get a great deal, or if it’s cheaper to go that route instead of the usually cheaper one.  Babies/kids grow way too fast to spend a lot of money on their clothing.  You can still get cute clothes for cheap!

Not comparing - Also, some parents tend to go with one place instead of comparing prices.  If you compare stores with sales, and consider the Internet for shopping you can save a huge amount!  Website like Amazon are great with helping you save money on everything!

Overspending – We overspend on a lot of things.  But if we can just find ways to spend less money, we will save much more.  Simply clipping coupons, looking for the best deals, and coming up with your own ways of doing things, can easily help you keep your credit card in your wallet.

Putting off savings – Also, a lot of young parents get so wrapped up in spending money on their children that they aren’t saving.  You should be putting aside 10% or more of your paycheck each week into your savings.  This well help you prepare for the future, your retirement, and for any emergencies.  Always save money, even if it’s just $20!

We all make mistakes, but if you think about things, and do things carefully you can usually avoid the majority of them.  Young parents learn as they go, but if you’re looking to learn before you take action, you’ll save yourself a lot of money.  Consider a few of these things when you’re getting prepared/taking care of your little one!
