Ah, hopefully your baby is now sleeping through the night. Once a baby reaches 8 weeks/two months they start to sleep longer stretches at night by reducing their wakings to just one instead of two in the middle of the night. To find out more on how far your baby has developed and grown, continue reading!
Two Months Old Baby Development:
- Your baby has really grown, but his head is still a bit wobbly. He is already capable of holding his head up whenever he’s on his stomach, but only for a few seconds at a time.
- He is now able to cry with tears, but still not enough to trickle down his eyes.
- He may now be able to move his arms and legs whenever he feels happy.
- You may even notice him starting to open his tiny hands. He may even try to hold on to things. This is the perfect time to get out the rattles! You’ll be amazed at how much they love them! Those tiny fists are no longer so tight, but instead, more relaxed.
- He may start to coo. These simple sounds bring such happiness to our ears. They sound so sweet!
- At this point, babies like to see contrast in colors, as well as patterns, so supply them with all sorts of baby toys!
- Recognizing certain things like your face, voice, as well as a bottle may also be common.
TIPS:
- Try considering a Boppy Pillow and maybe even a play mat to encourage their development. A Boppy Pillow is great for giving them that extra neck strength, as well as head support. As for a play mat, these are great for developing their senses. These mats have all sorts of bright colors, different sounds, as well as different objects hanging that they can touch and feel. This gets them excited and keeps them entertained quite well. It’s also a perfect entertainment for when you’re trying to get stuff done around the house.
- You should also consider a baby carrier or stroller at this point. Babies love to see their surroundings, especially from different views, angles and even heights. Simply walking around the house, around a subdivision, or even park are all great ways to have your baby check out their atmosphere.
While young, your baby’s only way of communicating is through crying, but now that he’s already two months old, he is capable of gurgling, laughing, and smiling when he’s happy.
As you can see, babies are really fun, especially if you start to notice how much development they are showing. Just make sure that you’re giving him an environment conducive for his learning! Opening him up to all sorts of sights, sounds, colors, and patterns is a great way for him to learn all about life!
Keep in mind that all babies learn different things at different times. They all vary, and some take longer to grasp the concepts of certain things. Always just make sure that if you notice your baby isn’t making much progress, or it seems to be very slow, make sure you consult with their pediatrician!
