Like all states in the U.S., there are car seat laws for the state of Utah.  These laws are so very important to know for a number reasons.  First, when you know the laws, you can help protect your child better, you can avoid getting fines, and you can also avoid getting a traffic violation with points on your record.

Car seat laws are very serious, and therefore, they should be taken very seriously.  It all comes down to just safety, and the law wanting you to protect your sweet children.  To make sure you’re familiar with your state’s car seat laws, here are Utah’s below.

Utah Car Seat Laws:

• If your child is 7 years or younger, and is less than 57″, they must remain in a child car seat.
• Children must also wear a safety belt between the ages of 8-15, and if they’re shorter than 57″.
• If you fail to follow these laws, if may result in a fine of $45 for the first offense.

NOTES:

• It’s always safest to keep your baby rear-facing for as long as possible.  Since a baby’s neck doesn’t strengthen in the first few months, they should remain rear-facing until they’ve reached 20 lbs and at least one year of age.
• Once your child has exceeded the weight and height limits for their car seat, they must be upgraded to the next level as soon as possible.
• You should never consider buying a car seat used.  There are far too many dangers associated with used car seats.  For example, it could have been in an accident, could be expired, or even worse, it could be recalled due to inability of protecting your child.
