What is the Best Formula for Breastfed Babies?

As a mother, we have several roles and responsibilities.  Between taking care of our new baby, cleaning the house, making sure dinner is prepared, and breastfeeding, those activities literally take up our whole day.  Breastfeeding is a great way to give your baby what they need to grow strong, but it can also be very time consuming.

Breast is always the best, and beats all formulas, but if you’re looking for a supplement here and there or when you go out for the night, there are formulas that can do a great job.  Sometimes you just need to pat yourself on the back for doing a good job, while giving yourself a break as well.

What is the Best Formula for Breastfed Babies?

  • The best type of formula for your breastfed baby is the one that fits them the best.  For example, if your baby is a newborn, you’d want to get newborn based formula, although if your baby is colicky, you’d want to get them colicky and fussy based formula.

How do I know if the formula is OK for my baby?

  • There is a formula out there for every baby type.  Whether it’s a store brand, is Similac, Enfamil, or an organic based formula, it’s really up to you.  As long as your baby is growing, is happy, and doesn’t seem to get upset after bottle feeding, the formula is doing it’s job.

The FDA makes sure that every formula on the shelf is one that is safe for your baby.  Also, if you compare the ingredients of a store bought brand to a leading brand, the ingredients are almost identical, so don’t feel like you need to spend a lot in or to get quality.

Formula is formula, but there are different formula’s based on your baby’s needs.  Just make sure that if your baby spits up frequently, they get one based on babies that spit up, or if your toddler is still on formula, you get the toddler based one.  Find the one that works for your baby in particular.
