What to do When Your Baby Has a Diaper Rash

When our little one has a diaper rash, we will usually know right away.  They’re not too happy, and their skin will have a rash in the area where the diaper rests.  It hurts us to see our little one in pain and frustrated so it is important to do anything we can to help them fix their diaper rash.  There are a few different things you may wan to try and consider if your baby has diaper rash.

Changing – It is important to change your baby’s diaper whenever they go to the bathroom.  You never want to let them sit in a dirty diaper for too long.  Even if you have to change their diaper in the middle of the night, it’s worth not seeing them with a diaper rash.  This can help prevent diaper rashes and irritated skin.

Cleaning – You will also want to make sure you keep their diaper area clean.  After they go to the bathroom, wipe them with warm water and wipes that don’t irritate their skin.  Keeping a clean area will also keep rashes to a minimum.

Ointment – If these aren’t helping, you may want to consider an ointment.  There are several different ointments you can consider.  A few good ones are Desitin, petroleum ointment, and ointments with white zinc oxide.  These will help sooth your little one’s skin, and get the irritation to go away.

Bare bottom – Whenever you can, let your little one play without a diaper.  Letting their bottom expose to the air is one of the best ways to help with diaper rash.  Letting in air flow helps heal the skin because it’s not rubbing against anything and allows the skin to breathe better.  You can also let them sleep without a diaper by putting a plastic lining under their sheet to soak up any messes.

Change – You may want to consider changing the kind of diapers they’re using if these tips above don’t help.  It may be the certain diaper they’re using, so consider a different brand if you have to.

Helping your baby get through diaper rash shouldn’t take too long if you consider these tips.  These help sooth your baby’s skin, let in air flow and allow ointment to take care of irritated skin.  Don’t let your baby continue to had diaper rash, it’s very uncomfortable.  If you think it’s not improving, and is only getting worse you may want to take them to the doctors.
