When we’re expecting, excitement is in the air, and we’re eager to learn everything about what is inside us.  Often when we’re pregnant, a doctor will recommend an ultrasound for many things.  Ultrasounds are a great thing, and if you’re getting one for the first time, see what they will show you, by continue to read below!

What does an ultrasound show?

If there’s more than one – First of all, right when you get an ultrasound, the doctor will be able to tell you if there is more than one baby inside you.  Sometimes people are surprised by having more than one baby, or two!

Heartbeat - Another neat thing you can see is the babies heartbeat.  The doctor will able to see if the heartbeat is normal by seeing how many times the heart beats per minute.

Size – The doctor will also be able to tell you approximately what size your baby is.  You will be able to see it, even though it may be very tiny!

Location - You will be able to see where your baby is located, and also what position they are in.  It is important that your baby is located in the Uterus, and no other place.

Sex – The most exciting thing!  “Will I have a boy or a girl?” If you’re 16-20 weeks pregnant, the doctor will be able to tell you what you’re having!

Abnormalities – Just to stay on the safe side, the doctor will check for any abnormalities.  More than likely, you’ll be leaving with a healthy baby!

Fluids - The sonogram will also show you how much amniotic fluid there is.  You want to have just the right amount, neither too little nor too much.

Ultrasounds are such an exciting thing to look at!  Us moms are extremely impatient, and when we know we’re pregnant, we want to find out all the details.  So, when you go to get your first ultrasound, you have nothing to worry about.  If anything, it is an exciting time for you and your significant other!
