When is it Time to Get a New Car Seat?


Over time you will find that you need to get a new car seat for your child.  Whether your child has reached the maximum height, age, or weight, a new car seat is needed to make sure they continue to ride safely in the car.  If you suspect that your child might need a new car seat, ask yourself if your child falls into these few categories.

Infant car seatsInfant car seats are known to be made for a newborn up to around 22 pounds.  They also usually max at a height around 32″.  So, if your child is getting close or is over these two limits, it is time to look for a convertible car seat.

Convertible car seatsConvertible car seats are usually the most popular car seats.  Simply because they can hold newborns up to about 65 lbs usually.  This allows a long time for your child to grow with their car seat.  Depending on what kind of car seat you have, you will be able to use it after an infant car seat, or as an infant car seat and convertible car seat.  Once your child gets to about 70 lbs, and around 4 years of age, you will need to upgrade to a booster car seat.

Booster car seatsYou will find that once your child grows out of their convertible car seat they will need a booster seat.  A booster seat will last your child until they’re about 100 lbs, and around 57″ tall.

Getting a new car seat for your child is important to do.  They need the correct car seat to make sure they ride safely in the car.  So, if you think your child might be at that point where they need a new car seat, consider the ages, height and weights above!
